The use of lithium batteries in automotive applications is becoming increasingly popular. However, some key aspects are still unknown. If you want to get the best performance and avoid problems, here are the utility vehicle battery specifications to check before you buy.

Battery type by technology

As you might imagine, and perhaps one of the most important decisions to make, will be to be clear about what type of battery you are buying: whether it is a lead-acid battery or a lithium-ion battery, for example.

The type of chemistry used to store the energy is different:

Traditional lead-acid batteriesbatteries, have for many years been considered the standard model, are usually heavier than lithium-ion batteries of the same capacity. They are filled with electrolyte (sulphuric acid and water) and include a removable lid. This type of battery generates electricity through a chemical reaction that occurs in lead plates and sulphuric acid. Lead-acid batteries require periodic recharging with water, or the chemical process will degrade and the battery may fail sooner than expected.

Lithium-ion batteries are newer technology and have many different chemistries. One of the most popular chemistries is lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) and specifically the LifePo4 chemistry, which is used by NCPOWER. 2. Voltage

Once you have decided on the type of electric battery technology you are most interested in implementing in your fleet, you will need to select a voltage. This specification is important because certain equipment requires specific voltages to operate.

In general, the voltage specifications for conventional lead-acid batteries can range from 12, 24, 36, 48 or even 80 volts. When it comes to utility vehicles, a low figure is sufficient.

If you are getting a lithium-ion battery for a commercial vehicle, be aware that the nominal voltage is usually around 400 volts. This may vary depending on the design and configuration of the battery in question.

3. Battery capacity and life
